Education

Thad is committed to supporting our public and private education system at every level - from Madison elementary and middle schools, to West and Edgewood High and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Strong public education is critical to maintaining our growing economy, but currently our schools in Madison are overcrowded and under-resourced. This is, in part, due to the catastrophic passing of Act 10 which severely crippled the ability to recruit and retain experienced teachers and staff. I will fight to repeal Act 10 to ensure that teachers and staff can once again bargain for competitive wages.

He will fight to raise pay for teachers and support staff and ensure that our schools have the resources to support every student. As a UW-Madison husband (Thad’s wife Michelle works as a professor and researcher in the School of Pharmacy), Thad knows well the importance of restoring the independence of the UW system, safeguarding DEI initiatives, and ensuring that UW-Madison continues to be the incubator for Wisconsin’s future leaders.

He supports bringing state level per-pupil funding in line with the national average, with special focus on specialized staff, adaptive technology, and curricula that accommodate different learning styles for students with disabilities.

He supports increased access to mental health services by providing resources for school counselors, psychologists, and social workers, particularly for queer and non-binary students whose identities are under attack.

Lastly, Thad supports a statewide free school lunch program so that every student has the opportunity to thrive academically and physically.
